Our Health Testing

 

At Womlu Mastiffs, the health and welfare of our dogs is a central part of our breeding programme. Responsible breeding requires careful planning, research and the use of available health testing to help reduce the risk of inherited conditions.

 

Before any breeding takes place, we aim to ensure that dogs used within our breeding programme are carefully assessed for health, soundness and temperament. Health testing allows breeders to make informed decisions that support the long-term wellbeing of the breed.

 

Where appropriate, this may include:

 

• DNA testing for known hereditary conditions

• Hip and elbow screening

• Cystinuria 

• BVA eye testing

• Canine Mulit-Focal Retinopathy (CMR)

• Coat hair length 

• Ongoing monitoring of health within breeding lines

• Careful consideration of family history and longevity

 

Health testing does not guarantee that a dog will never develop a health condition, but it is an important tool in responsible breeding and helps reduce potential risks for future generations.

Breeding Mastiffs is both a privilege and a responsibility. At Womlu Mastiffs our aim is to protect and preserve the qualities that have made this breed admired for centuries.

 

We believe that responsible breeding must always place the health and welfare of the dog first. Every breeding decision is made with careful consideration of health, temperament, structure and breed type.

 

Our goal is to produce Mastiffs that reflect the traditional characteristics of the breed:

 

• Strength and substance

• Sound structure and movement

• Stable and gentle temperament

• True Mastiff type

 

We place great importance on temperament, as Mastiffs are known for their calm and loyal nature. Puppies should grow into confident, well-balanced companions capable of living happily as part of the family.

Breeding is never undertaken lightly. Each litter is carefully planned with the aim of contributing positively to the future of the breed.
